COVID update: 834 positives bring Pa. total to 151,646

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon Tuesday that there were 834 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 151,646. Centre County, where Penn State is located, is reporting an increase of 185 cases.

There are 8,023 total deaths attributed to COVID-19, an increase of 19 new deaths reported.

“We know that congregation, especially in college and university settings, yields increased case counts. The mitigation efforts in place now are essential to flattening the curve and saving lives,” Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said. “Wearing a mask, practicing social distancing, and following the requirements set forth in the orders for bars and restaurants, gatherings, and telework will help keep our case counts low. Together, as Pennsylvanians, all of our efforts are designed to support our communities to ensure that cases of COVID-19 remain low.”

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 22,331 resident cases of COVID-19, and 4,893 cases among employees, for a total of 27,224 at 962 distinct facilities in 61 counties. Out of our total deaths, 5,360 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities. A county breakdown can be found here.

Approximately 10,419 of our total cases are among health care workers.

Locally, Carbon County is reporting 452 cases, an increase of three, with 28 deaths.

Lehigh County has 5,505 positives, an increase of 11 cases. Deaths increased by five to 350.

Luzerne County has 12 additional cases, for a total of 4,039. Deaths remain at 189.

Monroe County has 1,779 cases, an increase of four. Two more deaths were attributed to coronavirus, for a total of 131.

In Northampton County, there are 4,403 cases, an increase of nine. One more death has been recorded for a total of 305.

In Schuylkill County, four more cases have been confirmed, for a total of 1,068. There are 52 deaths.
