Ross waits to go green before setting event dates

Many activities remain on hold in Ross Township as it awaits Monroe County to move into the green phase of the coronavirus reopening process.

For the third month, the township building remains closed to the public, so Monday’s monthly supervisors meeting was a conference call between personnel inside the building and participants, including Chairwoman Tina Drake, on the phone.

“I motion to open everything up once the county is in the green phase,” said Vice Chairman David Shay from inside the meeting room.

The motion passed.

Monroe went yellow on Friday.

The restrooms, playground and pavilion also remain closed.

Activities such as spring cleanup and permit-free yard sale dates cannot be scheduled.

“A lot of people have been home cleaning up their yards. They have items ready to bring here. But we cannot do any of these things until we’re green,” Shay said.

Everyone will have to wear a mask when inside the office building.

For spring cleanup, the township rents dumpsters and residents bring garbage and recyclable items to the township for disposal.

He said the dumpsters are available June 26-27 and July 10-11.

Since no one can speculate when the county will be in the green phase, supervisors will see when the dumpsters are available in August, and hopefully set a date at their July meeting.

The yard sale occurs on residents’ properties. They set up tables on their lawn or in their garage and sell various items.

They hope to set that date at the July meeting as well.

Township secretary Danielle Romano received a pavilion rental request for August.

The pavilion rental is contingent upon the county being in the green phase. Also, the person renting it must comply with whatever gathering size is recommended at the time, Shay said.

“Hopefully in July we’ll be green, and everyone can resume meeting in the building,” he said during Monday’s adjournment.
