Man charged with striking man, mailbox, with vehicle

A Lansford man has been charged after he struck a man and his mailbox with his car.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Craig Ball of the Lehigh Township Police Department in the case against Anthony Iannelli:

At 8:48 p.m. May 21, Ball was dispatched to the 900 block of Woodland Drive for a hit-and-run complaint about Iannelli, 19, hitting a man and a mailbox with an Oldsmobile that had smashed out windows. The vehicle left the area heading west on Cedar Drive.

The victim had two bloody abrasions on his right knee and another abrasion on the inside of his right foot.

He said that he went out to get Iannelli off the property, and that Iannelli continued to spin his tires and then took his mailbox out.

The victim said Iannelli’s first attempt to strike him failed and the second attempt struck his leg as he moved out of the way.

A witness told police told police Iannelli was driving an older model Oldsmobile that he believed to be owned by the passenger.

A second witness said Iannelli pulled into the driveway, the passenger got out the car and approached the front porch of the residence and said that the victim told him he did not want Iannelli on his property.

The witness said when the passenger told Iannelli to leave, he began to spin his tires.

As the victim approached the vehicle, Iannelli pulled forward, attempting to hit him, drove into the front yard, spun out, drove toward the victim a second time attempting to hit him again, struck the mailbox and sped off north on Woodland Drive, according to the witness.

Iannelli spun his tires out again and he and the passenger left the area.

The witness said she did not see the man get hit but believed Iannelli was attempting to hit him with the vehicle.

A third witness said she saw a vehicle parked directly behind her vehicle in the driveway in the 900 area of Woodland Drive.

The witness said they went north on Woodland Drive to turn around and that she saw Iannelli start spinning the tires and reverse out of the driveway.

She said Iannelli ran over the mailbox and struck the victim before flying down the street heading toward the vehicle that she was in, and that Iannelli sped back up the street, stopped in front of 962 Woodland Drive, attempted to jump out of the car but got back in and left the area.

The victim’s father, who said that Iannelli had been told he was not allowed on the property, said Iannelli backed up, spun a circle in the yard, took out his mailbox, and struck the victim with the front end of the vehicle.

Iannelli faces charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving, driving while operating privilege is suspended/revoked, and criminal mischief.

He is currently incarcerated in Northampton County Jail in lieu of $15,000, 10 percent bail, and was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing today before District Judge Bruce Appleton, who is filling in for District Judge Robert A. Hawke of Walnutport.
