Polk Twp. extends call for bids

Polk Township supervisors met for a quick meeting Thursday morning and decided to extend their call for bids until the end of April for a paving project on Lower Middle Creek and Trach roads.

Michael Hurley, the vice chairman of the supervisors, said bids can be submitted to the township office via email. Usually, bids are delivered to the office, but because of the coronavirus, the township is accepting them through email.

The paving project will cover about a quarter of a mile on Trach Road and a mile and three quarters on Lower Middle Creek Road, he said.

The supervisors also approved purchasing another 40-yard roll-off container for garbage, but will decide who they will buy it from at their meeting on April 27. Hurley said they are considering three different companies, but they don’t have specs from two of the companies.

The new container will replace one that is rusting out.

The township has halted recycling until further notice, but garbage can be dropped off. The center is closed today for Good Friday, but will be open from 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.

The township has also decided to cancel its annual yard sale on May 13 and 14 due to the virus.

And lastly, the supervisors approved a letter of support for the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company as they seek to be able to bill insurance companies for the cost of replacing equipment used while fighting fires.

“They could do it independently,” Hurley said. “But if the township approves, it’s better.”
