Carbon to furlough some workers

The Carbon County Commissioners, in conjunction with the Court of Common Pleas and the elected row office holders, will be initiating the furlough and partial furlough of county employees due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

An exact count of the total and partial furloughs has not been released at this time but will be announced as more decisions are made by officials.

The effective date of the furlough is Monday through April 30.

A decision will be made prior to April 30 if the furloughs and partial furloughs are to remain in effect until a later time.

Services of the county will still remain operational and will be handled by fewer staff members until this situation passes.

“We want everyone to know the county, the court and row offices will still be functioning, just under different circumstances,” a news release from the county states.

“This was a difficult decision for the commissioners, the court and row office holders, and was not taken lightly. This conscientious decision was made with the safety of the employees and the public foremost in mind. We ask for your patience in this trying time and know we will be back even stronger.

“Please stay safe, stay home and if you must go out please, please practice social physical distancing.”
