A look back: Nov. 9, 1965

Wallace “Wally” Hoffman, a resident of the Strauss Valley north of Normal Square, Mahoning Township, is being added as a part-time worker in the office of Carbon County Soil Conservationist Robert McCombs in the courthouse, Jim Thorpe.

A dairy farmer who has practiced conservation on his own farm, Hoffman will serve as a conservation aide and will work about two days monthly.

He is the second part-time worker added to the force, Clark Schoenberger, a resident of the area between Harrity and Bowmanstown, having been previously appointed.

McCombs said two other part-time appointments remain to be made.
