Panther Valley superintendent Kergick to retire

Panther Valley School District Superintendent Dennis Kergick announced Thursday that he won’t be seeking a contract renewal when his ends in June 2020.

Kergick said after six years as the district’s superintendent, he will be retiring this coming summer.

Kergick took up the role in 2014, at an annual salary of $97,000.

“I’m going to miss the people,” Kergick said. “I think there’s a lot of fantastic people here.”

“I’ve been lucky,” he said.

Before becoming superintendent, Kergick served as supervisor of curriculum and federal programs for the North Schuylkill School District.

Ahead of announcing his planned retirement, Kergick noted the school district still needs to fill several faculty positions, including openings for a high school Spanish teacher, a business and computers teacher and two vacancies in special education.

The district is also looking for a special education director, as the former director, Dr. Catherine Nelson, resigned last month and an emotional support teacher at the middle school, as Richard Roberts, who currently holds the position, resigned Thursday evening.
