Carbon County commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners, on Thursday, acted on or discussed the following items:

• Opened the sole bid for the Summit Hill Ginder Park improvement project. The bid, submitted by Stoney Lonesome Excavating of Summit Hill, came in at $274,480. The commissioners said that the county allocated between $30,000 and $40,000 in Community Development Block Grant money for the project, while the rest is being funded through a state grant Summit Hill secured and borough funds.

• Opened the sole bid for phase 1 of the Red Hill Road project in Franklin Township, with Lehigh Asphalt Paving and Construction of Tamaqua submitting a bid of $335,972.

• Opened bids for the replacement of three propane gas water heaters at the Carbon County Correctional Facility and awarded the contract to low bidder JMB Mechanical Inc. of Nazareth at a cost of $52,000 under the recommendation of the county engineer, Carbon Engineering, which reviewed the bids immediately following them being opened.

• Approved contracts with nCourt of Kennesaw, Georgia, for the domestic relations, register of wills prothonotary and sheriff’s offices to provide clients with the ability to make credit card payments. Clients would incur the same 3 percent service fee with the current online and phone payments. There is no cost to the county.

• Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard acknowledged Charles J. Neff, site coordinator at the correctional facility, for his service at the prison. Neff, of Summit Hill, retired on Aug. 14.

Davidson of Tresckow, special deputy sheriff trainee, effective Aug. 16; and Kera M. Rodgers of Tamaqua, part-time victim/witness coordinator, effective Sept. 27.

• Employment separation: Skyllar R. Smiley of Summit Hill, part-time corrections officer, effective Aug. 12.

• Changes of status: Tammy L. Cooks and Drake A. Leighton, both of Lehighton, from part-time corrections officer/Teamsters to corrections officer, effective Aug. 26; and Debra J. Evans of Nesquehoning, from part-time corrections officer to part-time corrections officer/Teamsters, effective Aug. 26.
