A Luzerne County man has been charged with terroristic threats after he sent threatening text messages to Boy Scouts of America staff members.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police on Wednesday arrested Christopher Corey, 36, of Pittston, for threatening and alarming staff members employed by Boy Scouts of America along Route 115 in Blakeslee.

A staff member reported receiving multiple text messages from Corey deemed to be strange messages which had changed to a dark undertone with veiled threats and counting down days.

The disturbing texts were received after an initial text, referencing a barbecue a Boy Scouts Camp was having and celebrating its 100th year Anniversary, scheduled for this coming Saturday.

As the investigation continues, police executed a search warrant at the Corey residence in Pittston where three handguns, a shotgun, plastic boxes containing various ammunition, cellphones and computers were all seized.

While executing the search warrant, Pocono Mountain Regional Police were assisted by the Pittston Police Department.

Corey has been charged with two counts of terroristic threats and arraigned by District Magistrate Richard Claypool of Pocono Pines, who denied bail.

Corey was sent to the Monroe County Correctional Facility, and is scheduled to appear Aug. 1 for a preliminary hearing before Claypool.
