Schuylkill commissioners receive bids

During a meeting Wednesday, the Schuylkill County Commissioners reviewed bids they’d received for two projects, storm sewer drainage improvements in Delano and a demolition in Tamaqua. Bids for both projects were due by 3 p.m. Monday and opened at 9 a.m. before the regular commissioners’ meeting.

The Tamaqua demolition project is for 241 Lafayette St. The low bidder for that work is Bill David Cement Contractors, Mahanoy City at $24,999. The only other bidder is Northeast Industrial Services Corp., Shamokin, at $37,440.

There are 10 bidders for the Delano Township work, which involves storm sewer drainage improvements on Hazle Street. In order from lowest to highest, the bids are: Blue Ridge Excavating, Shamokin, $58,855; Schuylkill Paving, Schuylkill Haven, $74,870; MEI Demo & Excavation, Port Carbon, $77,110; Arthur Pat Aungst Inc., Pine Grove, $$86,844; Custer Excavating, Palmyra, $94,224; M&J Excavation, Bloomsburg, $95,705; Ankiewicz Enterprises, Tamaqua, $110,171; Doli Construction Corp., Chalfont, $132,536; James T. O’Hara, Covington Township, $134,095; and Lehigh Paving & Construction, Tamaqua, $137,925.

All bids will be reviewed by Controller Christy Joy and awarded at a later date.

In other action the commissioners:

Approved a fee for service contract for $46,396 with Benefits Data Trust, Philadelphia, for the period Sept. 30, 2018, to Sept. 28, 2019. Funds for the contract are provided by the Philadelphia Department of Aging and will be used by the company to conduct outreach for Medicare Part D Low Income Subsidy, to assist in LIS-related applications such as Pace/Pacenet, supplemental nutrition assistance programs, LIHEAP and property/tax rebate.

Entered into a contract with Clinical Outcomes Group Inc., Pottsville, for prevention programs with a contract cap of $75,000 for fiscal year 2018-19.

Awarded a two-year cleaning contract to TKO Cleaning Services for the 911 Communications Center Building, 432 N. Centre St., Pottsville, for $10,800 per year for two years, Jan. 1, 2019, through Dec. 31, 2020. TKO will also clean the Children & Youth Building, 324 N. Centre St., Pottsville, for $25,200 per year, for the same time frame.
