Christy returns to Skipper Dippers, search continues

Fugitive Shawn Christy was once again spotted Wednesday night at Skipper Dippers in Rush Township.

According to reports at the scene, a worker went to take out garbage and found Christy, 27, a McAdoo native, hiding in the dumpster.

Christy jumped out and ran away.

Local police, state police and helicopters are searching for Christy.

This morning, Rush Township Police declined to give any details, but said the matter remains under investigation.

Police deferred comment to the owner of Skipper Dippers, who was unavailable at presstime.

Christy is wanted for making threats to harm President Donald Trump and Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli. He is believed to be traveling afoot and living in the wilderness of Rush Township, possibly in woods lining Ben Titus Road or Fairview Street.

Christy is white; 5 feet 10 inches tall; weighs about 160 pounds; has a tattoo of a cross on his right upper arm; short, dark blond hair; and a full beard, as seen in surveillance video from Skipper Dippers. He speaks with a detectable lisp.

Surveillance cameras caught Christy breaking into Skipper Dippers Dairy Bar and Grill in Still Creek at 10:45 p.m. Friday.

Rush Township police Chief Ken Zipovsky said Christy forced entry into the establishment by damaging the window unit to the air conditioner.

Zipovsky said Christy stayed about 30 minutes and stole various items, including food.

An arrest warrant for the break-in was filed Monday at the office of District Judge Stephen Bayer of Tamaqua.

Last Thursday, police say Christy broke into a residence along Ben Titus Road hours after abandoning a stolen vehicle at Tide Road in Hometown.

Immediately after the burglary, the Rush Township board of supervisors issued another online warning to residents to stay vigilant.

“Keep your eyes open and report anyone you don’t recognize to the 911 center. His appearance and clothes are more like the picture put out (previously) of him in a store. Residents, please watch out for each other,” Rush police said.

Since the first report of a vehicle Christy stole in the township, Zipovsky said police have been vigorously handling a number of suspicious person and incident complaints.

Zipovsky said police are working in conjunction with the FBI, Secret Service, U.S. Marshals and state police on efforts to apprehend Christy.

In the meantime, Zipovsky cautioned residents to take “just common-sense security approaches.”

He said those include taking keys out of their vehicles, locking their vehicles and taking normal standard precautionary measures.

Federal authorities are offering a cash award of up to $20,000 for information leading to the direct arrest of Christy.

Any information will be considered confidential.
