World War II has caused the death in action of another Mauch Chunk youth, the eighth to die since the conflict started.

Pfc. Cordes M. Rehrig, son of Linda Rehrig, South Street, was killed in action in France on Sept. 14, according to word sent to his mother by the War Department.

The young man entered the service on June 11, 1942, and was sent overseas last spring. His family last heard from him on Aug. 17 when he wrote that he was well and safe.

Rehrig, who graduated from Mauch Chunk High School in 1933, has two brothers in the service, Yeoman 1st Class Ellsworth and Pvt. Aaron.
