Tamaqua Area School Board

Last week, Tamaqua Area School Board took the following action:

• Accepted the resignation of elementary teacher Johanna Morrison, effective Aug. 7, 2017.• Accepted the resignations of Stephanie Metters, full-time paraprofessional; and Madeline Amy Behler, Lisa DeHaven and Beth Stolarski, part-time paraprofessionals, effective immediately.• Approved Jennifer Florea from part-time paraprofessional to full-time paraprofessional; Jessica Grim as a part-time paraprofessional; and Frank Berleth, Suzanne Lobichusky, Ashley Longo, William Savitsky, Joel Whitehouse, Rachelle Gosse, Jon Herbert, and Diane Kraft as professional substitute guest teachers.• Announced Amilee Moyer and Dana Rottet have earned professional employee status as of Aug. 16.• Approved the daily substitute rate as follows: $100 per day, and 22-plus consecutive days to $120 per day. Daily, $100 per day; 20-plus consecutive days, $120 per day. That represents an increase from $90 for the daily rate, and from $100 for the 20-plus consecutive days rate.• Authorized Superintendent Ray Kinder the ability to hire staff on an as-needed basis.• Reinstated a previously expelled high school student.• Approved the Education Service Agreement between the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 and the district to provide appropriate special education services with the exception of the Gifted Program. The tentative amount is $550,337.• Approved the STC Capital Improvement Project.• Approved a revision of the administrative and confidential salary schedule.• Approved the bus contracts for a three-year extension from July 1, 2017, to June 30, 2020, for Kistler Transportation Inc., Felty Transportation, and Lech Transportation Inc. It represents a 1 percent increase in the 2017-18 year, followed by cost of living adjustment in the second and third year. The value in the first year is a total of a $17,000 increase; Kistler ($10,000); Lech ($4,000) and Felty ($3,000).• Approved an agreement for Participation in the Child Nutrition Program with the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29.• Approved the Agreement for Participation in the Child Nutrition Program with the Schuylkill AVTS Operating Agency.• Approved the print quotes as follows: Seider's Printing, $8,950; Eastern Press, $2,443, for various forms and envelopes.• President Larry Wittig to the AVTS Authority for the 2017-18 school year.• The purchase price of $1 for the repository sale of a parcel located at 252 W. Cottage Ave., Tamaqua.
