Panther Valley library holds raffle

The Panther Valley Public Library is hosting its fifth annual basket raffle on May 20.

The event will be held at the Summit Hill Heritage Center, 1 W. Hazard St. Doors open at 9 a.m. and the drawing begins at 1 p.m. A variety of ethnic and American foods, desserts and drinks will be available for purchase and you do not have to be present to win.Marlene Basiago, president of the board and library volunteer, said 117 baskets are up for grabs this year and range from a variety of themed prizes for children and adults to gift certificates, cash, baseball tickets and more. This is the all-volunteer library's largest fundraiser of the year and proceeds raised from the event help to with the organization's annual costs.Basiago said the library receives no state, local or school funding for its operation so it depends on the generosity of the public, as well as fundraising to keep the doors open. The library has the baskets on display all month and people who cannot make the event but would like to put in for a basket can still do so by visiting the library at 117 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.; Tuesday between 9 a.m. and noon and 5 and 7 p.m.; or Thursday between 5 and 7 p.m. to purchase tickets. The library is open to anyone and hosts various children and adult events throughout the year. For more information, call 570-645-3780.
