Sherry Graver, emergency management coordinator for Washington Township, said the free smoke detector program will begin again, this time in the Emerald area. The report was given at the April 4 supervisors' meeting.

The Red Cross and firefighters will go back to the areas covered in October to check if new residents want smoke detectors.On May 20 there will be a vehicle rescue class. Supervisors were asked if they could house the vehicles behind the municipal building. There will be three cars, two tractors and a bus. Supervisor Josh Friebolin said the supervisors would discuss it and provide a decision.The Slatington Library sent a thank-you letter for the $1,000 donation.The resignation of Supervisor Gerald Phillips was accepted as of March 27. He was thanked for his time on the board. The position is advertised on the township website and on the door of the municipal building for anyone interested.An ordinance amendment to set fees that can be collected and reimbursed to the fire companies for supplies used during an event will be advertised. The way it reads, future changes can be made by resolution.An ordinance to vacate a section of a paper alley off Brown Street was approved.Andrew Kanas was added to the planning commission.Township Manager Todd Weidman said a zero-turn Toro lawn mower is being purchased for $9,460. The township will receive $1,500 on a trade-in.Under public comment, Ed Ziegler said there is no stop sign at Franklin Street, and cars speed through. He said the township should have sign-ins for people who want to talk, saying it might be of benefit in the future.
