Route 209 bridge replacement in Kresgeville pushed to 2018

Polk Township chairman Brian Ahner informed the residents at Monday evening’s board of supervisor’s meeting that theRoute 209 bridge replacement project has been pushed back.

The original start date for the project was April 2017. The revised date is April 2018.“We are permitted by contract on some of the bridges to go into 2018,” said Rory McGlasson of Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners. “The process of obtaining the right of way on that project is still ongoing.”The Kresgeville bridge, which is identified on the Rapid Bridge Replacement website as number 179, is scheduled to be replaced and the road widened in the area, which is adjacent to the intersection of routes 209 and 534 in Monroe County. The contractor is planning on closing down one lane at a time during the replacement to keep traffic flowing on the routes. However, many commuters who use that intersection are still anticipating slow travel and long wait times in the construction area.“I come through there about three times per week,” said Joseph Koch of Allentown, who makes deliveries to the area food markets. “I will be looking for another route to take in order to avoid the traffic. You don’t make money sitting in your truck waiting for a light to turn green.”You can keep track of all of the rapid bridge replacement projects at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation website,

The bridge and culvert project on Hell Hollow Road will be proceeding now that theLocal Share Account grant and the Monroe County Conservation District dirt and gravel grant have been received. The LSA grant in the amount of $150,000 will help offset the total cost of the project, which is expected to be close to $500,000. The dirt and gravel grant is approximately $70,000.The township had planned on completing the Hell Hollow Road project last year but had to put it off due to the delays in finalizing the state budget. The LSA grant was received too late in the year to proceed. The supervisors agreed to advertise for bids and plan to award the contract at next month’s supervisor’s meeting if acceptable bids are received. The township also agreed to the purchase of a new generator. The generator will be purchased from AHG of Allentown at a cost of $14,511.58. AHG was the lowest bidder of a number of companies.
