A Mass of Thanksgiving and farewell for the ministry and service of Bishop John Barres during his seven-and-a-half years leading the Diocese of Allentown will be held at the Cathedral of Saint Catharine of Siena in Allentown at noon Sunday.

Barres will be main celebrant of the Mass, after which there will be a reception with light refreshments for those who wish to greet the bishop.At the Mass, a special second collection in honor of Barres will be taken up to benefit the Hispanic Scholarship Endowment Fund of the Catholic Foundation of Eastern Pennsylvania.Pope Francis appointed Barres as the Fifth Bishop of the Rockville Centre, New York Diocese on Dec. 9. He will be installed there at a special Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Agnes on Jan. 31.
