Walnutport changes trash collection day

After signing a new contract with Tamaqua Transfer Station, the Walnutport collection date changed from Wednesday to Monday morning, allowing residents to place refuse on the curb Sunday night.

Councilwoman Patrice Hunsicker informed residents the transfer station will no longer collect used tires."They will not be accepted during regular pickup," she said."We are going to organize a recycling event twice a year."The dates have not yet been designated by the board.According to the board, a large dumpster at the end of View Drive is where the company will pick up trash for the residents on the privately owned road."Part of the problem is when people buy real estate up there, they don't know what their services are," Council President William Turk said."That's why the mailboxes are down below. The trucks refuse to go up there."The board agreed to reissue letters to residents of the road about placing their garbage for collection.
