Schuylkill commissioners raise pay for poll workers

Schuylkill County commissioners have agreed to pay more for poll workers in an in attempt to attract more applicants.

The judge of elections wage would go from $105 to $130; the inspectors/clerks' from $100 to $110; and the constables' from $100 to $110.The minority inspector of election will receive an additional $20 to accompany the judge of election in transmitting the election returns to the Schuylkill Transportation System building, where they are tallied.The increases will be effective in 2018.In a related matter, commissioners approved the annual software license for the 2017 with Election Systems & Software at $26,745.In other matters, commissioners on Wednesday approved a change order for a suspension of work and time extension for a stormwater project in McAdoo.The contract is with M&J Excavation. It was extended due to lead time for inlet boxes and winter temperature restrictions on paving and seeding.The projected new start date is March 20, with completion expected by July 3.Commissioners also:• Accepted the resignation of deputy Sheriff William J. Allar of Branch Township as of Jan. 20. He earned $18.68 an hour.• Approved the promotion of Shawn Butler of Frackville, from part-time security guard II to deputy sheriff as of Jan. 21. He'll earn $18.68 an hour.• Issued proclamations recognizing the 10th anniversary of Frontier Girls, and the county's Mental Health/Developmental Services/Drug & Alcohol programs.
