Carbon County court - drug cases

Five defendants pleaded guilty in Carbon County court on Thursday to drug-related charges. Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas from the following:

Dennis J. Rauch, 31, of Clearfield, Cambria County, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance - heroin. He was arrested following a vehicle stop along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge on Feb. 11.Rauch was a passenger in the vehicle in which crack cocaine was found and he admitted it was his. Rauch is currently an inmate in the county prison on the charges.Sentencing was deferred.Gary Bowman, 39, of Berwick, Columbia County, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also charged following a traffic stop in Interstate 80 on Nov. 8, 2015, in East Side Borough by Fern Ridge troopers.Matika imposed a fine of $150 and costs.Nathan Neil Ross, 31, of Nescopeck, Luzerne County, pleaded to one count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.He was also stopped on I80 on Dec. 8, 2015, in East Side Borough. Ross admitted to an addiction problem and spent time in an inpatient rehab program. Matika placed him on probation for a year on each count, running currently, and ordered he render 50 hours of community service.Walter J. Honshiko, 62, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of possession of marijuana.He was arrested on Feb. 8 by borough police in the area of 127 W. Catawissa St. Police responded to a noise complaint at his residence and found him in possession of marijuana. Matika imposed a fine of $100 and costs.Chandler Adam George, 20, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on Jan. 7 by Mahoning Township police who responded to his residence along Mahoning Drive after a relative called to report she found syringes in his bedroom.Matika placed him on probation for six months and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render 25 hours of community service.After the guilty plea proceeding a revocation hearing was held to remove him from the Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program. George admitted violating conditions in a driving under the influence case.Matika ordered the case placed on the next pretrial list.
