Nearly 300 attend Penn Forest zoning meeting about wind farm

Nearly 300 people packed the Penn Forest Volunteer Fire Company tonight to hear plans by Iberdrola to install a 40-turbine wind farm in Penn Forest Township. Cars were parked alongside the road and the nearby bank parking lot.

The company has 59 sites in the U.S., including one in Somerset in Western Pennsylvania. This site is proposed on land owned by the Bethlehem Water Authority.

The windmills will be 525 feet high, attached to pads that are 60 feet in diameter, and 10 feet deep.

Testimony before the township zoning hearing board lasted more than three hours and is being continued to a later date.
