Lehighton middle school hosts concert

The Lehighton Area Middle School Music Department will present its 23rd annual spring concert Tuesday in the high school auditorium. The fifth- and sixth-grade groups will begin at 6:30 p.m. The seventh- and eighth-grade band and choirs will begin at 7:45 p.m. The doors will open at 6 p.m.

The Jazz Ensemble will begin the program with "Night Train." Kendra Williams and Luke Wilusz will be featured on this selection. Next, the jazz ensemble will perform a Jerry Lee Lewis-inspired piece, "Killer On The Keys," which features Calvin Maholick and Madeline Tonkin. The band will conclude its portion of the program with the disco classic, "

Y.M.C.A."The fifth- and sixth-grade band will perform "Centurion" arranged by Mark Williams, followed by a beginning band classic called "Anasazi," then "Walkin' Cool," a jazz-tinged piece by local composer Scott Watson.The Treble Chorale, consisting of fifth and sixth graders will conclude the first half of the program. The Treble Chorale will perform "Chattanooga Choo Choo." "We Are The Music" will be their next selection.The ensemble, band and chorale are under the direction of Thomas Weidner.The seventh- and eighth-grade portion of the program will commence with the seventh- and eighth-grade concert band under the direction of Beth Hudlow.Pieces include "Songs of the West;" "Dreamsong," a moody original featuring piano soloist Calvin Maholick; and "Zydeco Crawdad Dance." "Best of Beatles" features three chart toppers from the world's most influential rock band. The band will conclude with "American Heritage March," conducted by Marywood University student teacher, Erin Raymond.The seventh- and eighth-grade portion of the program will continue with the show choir Music Express Junior, under the direction of Laura Welkey. The choir will open with "Cantamos Americanos." Music Express Junior will feature eight graders Calvin Maholick and Paige Gruber on "One Small Voice."The concert will conclude with the Choraliers, the seventh- and eighth-grade chorus, also under the direction of Welkey.
