Weissport police cruiser needs painting

Weissport's chief of police told the borough council he would like to have the police cruiser painted and have new lettering "to make it look presentable," even though the car only has about 10,000 miles on it.

Chief of Police Rich Penn said his boss at another job does professional work and is willing to do the job.During the council's meeting on Monday, approval was given to Penn to get an estimate on what the work will cost.Council Vice President Arland Moyer, who conducted the meeting, said that previous paint work was done by someone else and it wasn't done properly."They only put lacquer on it and the paint peeled off," he said.Moyer agreed that paint work is needed, but said he would like it done properly.The car is a 2008 model purchased in 2009 for $28,000.In other business• Lynette Moyer, tax collector and the collector of trash collection fees, said she is at the borough hall on Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m. for residents to pay their bills.Moyer said delinquent notices have been sent to residents who are arrears in their garbage collection bills.• The council voted 4-0 to hire William Kintz of Franklin Township to cut down one tree in the borough park and trim six others at a cost of $3,300. There were six proposals received to do the work.The council said it will likely have Kintz do more tree trimming next year.• It was agreed to donate $100 to the Lehighton United Veterans Organization, which conducts Memorial Day services in the borough.• Moyer said he is hoping that the borough can obtain funds to install new stormwater drains. He said because of the lack of such drains, water ponds on the streets and often backs up into basements.He said he is hoping state Rep. Doyle Heffley can attend a future meeting of the council to discuss funding possibilities.• Moyer, as well as council members Linda Schoenberger and Brenda Leiby, will attend the seventh annual Human Services Priorities Brunch at 9
