Loose change can help community

Blue Mountain Business Connections and Thrivent Financial have partnered together with Printing-4-U to raise funds for the Jim Thorpe located nonprofit Turn To Us.

Louise Koch of BMBC and husband David, owners of the Lehighton printing shop, contacted chartered financial consultant Susan Lovejoy for the prescription pill bottle pocket change collection initiative. The brand-new bottles of all sizes are printed with a label encouraging donations for the holiday season."The bottles are made small in order to gather pocket change," Lovejoy said. "I know I've always got change on the bottom of my purse."The bottles, ordered online from a supply store, are large enough to accommodate quarters, but Lovejoy doesn't want givers to feel the pressure of handing over large amounts of money."We don't want people to feel they have to fill the whole thing."The fundraiser is part of Thrivent action team's efforts to give back to the community and support local organizations. The Fortune 500 company located on South Third Street in Lehighton was connected to the project through Printing-4-U and Blue Mountain Business Connections. The local organization was an obvious choice for the fundraising initiative. "There are many sick people who are fighting the fight for their lives," Koch said. "It's not about how many gifts to buy, food to cook or trips to take, it's about chemo, treatments, gas to get for medical procedures."The money raised will be donated to the 501(c) 3 Turn To Us, located on Broadway in Jim Thorpe.Turn To Us works to advocate for individuals and families who are experiencing the impact of both major and chronic illnesses such as cancer, ALS, MS, autism, lupus and many other physical conditions by connecting people with available resources in the community.Bottles can be picked up and returned at the three locations, Printing-4-U on Indian Hill, Thrivent Financial on South Third Street, both located in Lehighton or at the Turn To Us office in Jim Thorpe before Dec. 15.For more information on how to help the Carbon County cause visit
