Rescue crews help person stuck in rocky terrain in Nesquehoning

Rescue crews are on-scene near the wash shanty hill coming into Nesquehoning after receiving a call of a person in trouble in a wooded area.

Mark Nalesnik, Carbon County Emergency Management Agency coordinator, said that dispatchers received a call from a 23-year-old male at about 3:30 p.m. today who was in trouble.

The Comm. Center was able to pinpoint a general area to begin a search. Nesquehoning police, as well as fire crews and ambulance, and Lehighton Ambulance, state police and Lansford firefighters responded to the area.

A state police helicopter was able to spot the victim, who Nalesnik said has medical problems, in a hole in a very remote, rocky terrain of that area. The wash shanty area has coal mining activity in parts of the area yet.

Once state police located the man, rescuers went in and reached him.

As of 5:20 p.m., medics were with the man and preparing to transport him out of the area.

No other details were available at this time, Nalesnik said, noting that Nesquehoning police are in charge of the scene.
