Investigation is ongoing

An investigation is ongoing into the death of a Freeland woman in March.

Chelsea Michalesko, 24, was found dead inside a vehicle along Route 209, by Dee Zines Flowers and Gifts, in Jim Thorpe borough.Police responded to the scene around 11 p.m. March 21 for the report of a self-inflicted gunshot wound."We're just waiting on finalized reports from the state police on the forensic analysis they were doing," Jim Thorpe Detective Lee Marzen said Thursday. "Everything is mostly complete. I wish we had a better timeline. When we get everything authorized, this is a case that, one way or the other, I want to get something out there to the public."Michalesko worked as a Carbon County 911 dispatcher and was a member of the Freeland Community and the Lake Harmony Ambulance Services, and the Harwood Fire Department. An autopsy was conducted on March 23, but Carbon County coroner Bruce Nalesnik has not released a cause or manner of death."We're waiting on the final police report," Nalesnik said. "After that, we'll meet with the district attorney and go from there. There was a lot of laboratory work that had to be done here. This was not your average investigation."
