Schuylkill high school seniors learn about career choices

High school students from across Schuylkill County participated in the McCann School of Business and Technology's Sixth Annual High School Career Day.

The event was held Oct. 2, with more than 140 high school seniors representing Minersville, North Schuylkill, Pine Grove, Tamaqua and Schuylkill Haven Area High Schools in attendance.Local professionals were on hand to share "real life" work experiences and the paths they took. McCann program directors were also available to answer student inquiries."This was a great opportunity for high school seniors to understand the various career choices and employment opportunities available to them in Schuylkill County," said Lori Kane, High School and Community Relations Coordinator for McCann. "Students also had the chance to learn about scholarships, networking and personal branding from McCann staff members."Speakers for the day included: Gerald Daley, Schuylkill County Sheriff's Office; Joseph Drasdis, Empire Education Centers Inc; Tim Coyle, Mrs. T's Pierogies; Tim Brady, Tredegar; Trooper David Beohm, who serves as Public Information Officer for the PA State Police; Mark Weiderhold, who serves as Controller for Cougles Recycling; Tom Kowalsky, Human Resources Director for SCI Mahanoy & Frackville; John Platchko, Winsor Staffing and Tracie Kellagher, W.A. DeHart Inc.Career paths available at McCann include: Business, Criminal Justice, Paralegal, Network Administration, Massage, Phlebotomy/ Allied Health/Medical Billing and HVAC/Electrical.
