Fighting hunger

St. John's Lutheran Church of Tamaqua is fighting hunger one step at a time, offeringcongregation members and friends an easy way to participate in the Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network's "Hunger Weekend," which begins in earnest today and culminatesSunday with a Hunger Walk to help local families in need. Shoe printouts were "sold" for a donation and could be bought, colored and signed. The project raised approximately $130. St. John's parish secretary Linda Heigele and Pastor Phyllis Wolford are pictured withseveral of the printouts and the poster designed for the project. The Hunger Walk will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the Tamaqua Family Practice parking lot on South Railroad Street.Proceeds will benefit the food banks at the Tamaqua Salvation Army, Primitive Methodist Church and Trinity United Church of Christ.
