Blue Mountain donates $25,000 to health system

Blue Mountain Ski Resort thanked Blue Mountain Health System Thursday by donating the proceeds from a special ski event.

Barbara Green, President/CEO of the ski resort in Palmerton, presented a check for $25,000 to Andrew Harris, the health system's president and chief executive officer and Joe Guardiani, director of Fund Development.At the Blue Mountain Health System's Annual Auction and Carbon County Ski Night on March 6, skiers could buy a lift pass for only $20, compared to the normal cost of $35.Nearly 945 people took advantage of the lift pass offer.Other activities held that evening included a basket raffle, silent auction and a live auction.Entertainment was provided by Becky and the Beasts in the Vista Ballroom in the Summit Lodge.The ski resort donated all the proceeds from the lift pass sales that evening to BMHS.Green said the donation is the ski resort's way to thank BMHS for their continued excellence in serving the community"They're a big partner to the resort," Green said. "It's important that the hospital stays in its current capacity."Guardiani said the health system would like to give a "heartfelt thank you" to Green, the ski resort, and all of her staff."They bent over backward for us, and did the best they could for everybody on the slopes," Guardiani said. "I just can't say enough about how good they've been to us."Guardiani said that the event netted over $65,000 for the health system, which will benefit Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital and the Palmerton Hospital, as well as the Summit Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
