The Carbon County Commissioners voted in favor of allowing the county's adult probation office to continue participating in an intermediate punishment program within the local court system. The commissioners approved providing $24,323 toward the program, an amount that will be matched by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

The program is designed to allow non-violent offenders an opportunity to serve their sentences outside the walls of the county prison by way of electronic monitoring, intensive supervision and house arrest.
