Tamaqua Police are investigating a burglary at the former CVS building at the east end of the borough.

An officer on patrol at 11:37 a.m. last Friday saw tire tracks in the snow leading up to the empty building and went to investigate. He found the front, glass doors had been pried open. Once inside, the burglar began removing the electrical wiring, making off with a large amount of heavy-gauge copper wire. A smaller amount of aluminum wiring, some copper pipes and copper tubing/cables were removed.The theft took place sometime after midnight, possibly after 4 a.m. after the snow stopped falling.Evidence is being processed.Anyone who saw a vehicle or anything suspicious in the area that morning is asked to contact police at 570-668-5000.
