Geraniums are still blooming

It may be fall and there may be a chill in the air, but don't tell the zonal geraniums in front of Teddy Pathroff's house in Nesquehoning. The flowers look as if they had just been planted, even though they have been blooming all summer. Pathroff thinks that the leaves that have woven around the roots of the plants created a blanket from the cold nights, and are the reason for the continued late-season blooms. He purchased the flowers from the Mahoning FarmersMarket this past May. According to AccuWeather, temperatures will begin to dip today, with a low of 28, as the polar vortex pushes arctic air into most of the United States.
