No new grants for Penn Forest park

At Monday night's board of supervisors meeting, the Penn Forest Township supervisors were notified by park project manager Greg Pavlick that the township had been unsuccessful in obtaining the grants which it had applied for to begin Phase II of the park along Route 903.

The grants applied for were a DCNR C2P2 grant for $1,191,300, which would have required a 50/50 matching and a DCED Greenways and Recreation Program grant for $244,375."Neither grant was successful," Pavlick said. "My understanding is that DCED only had $13 million to give out and they received over $ 87 million in requests."Pavlick informed the supervisors that they could reapply next April, but that those grants would not be awarded until this time next year.In the meantime the supervisors have to consider whether or not to proceed with the next phase using only township money. At last month's meeting the supervisors had approved a motion to accept bids for two of the township trucks. Monday night the board reviewed three bids received. All of the bids were rejected as too low and a motion to re-advertise was made. There were also a number of personnel changes this past month. Township treasurer MaryAnn Lewellyn tendered her resignation effective Oct. 22. Township auditor Donna Briglio also submitted a letter of resignation effective Oct. 6.Following the executive session, the board agreed to hire Eugene Hayes as a part-time seasonal snowplow operator at a rate of $15 per hour. In addition, the board will be advertising for a part-time laborer at a rate of $13 per hour.Bills were paid in the amount of $67,510.63. Of that amount, $22,000 was for payroll. New security cameras for the municipal building and the transfer station were purchased for $10,299.The township will hold two meetings to discuss the budget for 2015 on Nov. 12 and Nov. 19 at the municipal building. Both meetings will begin at 6 p.m.
