Flizack starred in 3 sports

Ben Flizack excelled in three sports during an All-Star career that ended in 2007.

He received four letters in tennis, where he was a two-time captain and was undefeated in doubles play in 2006 and 2007. He earned two letters in basketball, where he served as captain in 2007. And in football, due to seven knee surgeries during his years as an underclassman, he only played one year as a senior in 2007.As a member of the Jim Thorpe tennis team from 2004-2007 Flizack captained the undefeated doubles team and the tennis team to undefeated regular seasons in 2005/2006 and led the team to the District 11 semifinals in 2005/2006. In 2006/2007 he captained the doubles team to another undefeated season and led the team to anther second place finish in the District 11 tournament while being named MVP.While playing basketball, Flizack was named captain of the team in his senior year. That season, the Olympians qualified for the District 11 tournament.In his only season playing football, Flizack was named First Team All-Conference on defense; Second Team All-Conference on offense and was awarded the Most Valuable Lineman Award.He was so impressive as a senior end in football that he received scholarship offers from Holy Cross, The University at Buffalo and Lehigh University, which he accepted. He had a star-studded career at Lehigh as a defensive end and, along with his personal accomplishments, was part of a Lehigh football team that won two Patriot League championships and played in NCAA tournament playoff games in 2010 in Iowa and 2011 in North Dakota.He received the Lehigh University Scholar Athlete Award in the Fall of 2007, Spring of 2009 and Fall of 2010 and was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2010. In 2011, he was a three-time recipient of the Lehigh University "Defensive MVP Game Award" against Colgate, Bucknell and Holy Cross and was named "Outstanding Defensive Lineman" for the 2011 season. He was also named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week during that season.Flizack graduated, with honors, from Lehigh in 2011 with a B.S. in Earth and Environmental Studies and is presently employed by Melick-Tully & Associates as a GeoTechnical & Environmental Engineer & Consultant.He currently resides in Verona, NJ with his girlfriend Kelsey.The Jim Thorpe Area Sports Hall of Fame banquet will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Jim Thorpe Memorial Hall.
