Summit Hill High School grads meet for annual get-together

Eighteen members of the Summit Hill High School Class of 1957 and their guests attended the 57-year reunion Thursday at the Mahoning Valley Country Club.

In his introductory remarks, class President Bruce Frassinelli of Schnecksville reviewed some of the top Saturday night TV network shows of 1957, including "Gunsmoke," the "Lawrence Welk Show," "Have Gun Will Travel" and "People Are Funny."The average price of a car was $2,749, he said, and top box office movies included "Bridge on the River Kwai," "Peyton Place" and "Twelve Angry Men."The top song the day the class graduated on June 6, 1957 was Pat Boone's "Love Letters in the Sand," which he compared to today's number one hit, "Talk Dirty to Me" by Jason Derulo.Other reunion committee members attending included Will Derby, who gave the invocation; Ann Marie Pisklak Lill and her husband, George; class secretary and greeter Martha Solomon Popp; Lucille Snyder Posh; and Walter Williams.Other committee members are: Lorraine Fritzinger Martin, Margaret Ellen Henry Rockwell, and, in memoriam, Gretel Malkin.Other class members and guests attending the reunion were: Edna Brooks Paton; Al Sommers; John Thomas and his wife, Joan; Louise Whitehead Zuber and her husband, Stanley; George Michalick and his wife, Anna Marie.Also Donna Ruth Derby Nalesnik; Nancy Heffelfinger Napoli; Irma Ossanna Leibensperger; Eleanore Mikulsky Slivka; Ann Marie McArdle McCloskey; Gerard Machalick; David Mollard and his wife, Carol; and Al DiMattia and his wife, Margie.Other attendees were: Marie Frassinelli, wife of Bruce Frassinelli, and Maxine Malkin Vermillion, sister of the late Gretel Malkin.A memorial, led by Walter Williams and Ann Marie Pisklak Lill, remembered the deceased classmates.They are: Helen Daderko, Wallace Kleckner, Diane Zimmerman Lambert, Gretel Malkin, Peter Matrician, Patrick Rutch, Helen Ambrose Sahr, Edward Staloski, Roger Troeder, Donald Wehr and Eugene Yasson.The class expects to have its 60th-year reunion in 2017.
