Former Panther Valley resident gives back

A.J. Domines, pastor of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elizabethtown, certainly never forgot where he came from and for the third year in a row has brought members of his congregation to the Panther Valley area to help give back to the community he once called home.

Domines, a 1992 Panther Valley High School graduate, along with Colleen Sites, youth director for the church, and approximately 17 young members, recently prepared and served lunch to area residents at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansford. The youth and their families donated all of the food for the community luncheon and the entire congregation of Christ Evangelical Lutheran collected food to be donated to the Shepherd House Food Pantry. The students also presented a check to the food pantry which represented funds collected during the Souper Bowl of Caring which is a is a youth-driven, national collection that is held on Super Bowl Sunday each year to help feed the hungry in our communities.Kimmy Bucher, one of the young people who helped prepare food and serve during the luncheon noted that helping others helps her to "put things in perspective."She added that it is "easy to become selfish" at times and that serving others teaches her that "there is always someone else who has it worse in the world."The youth group also participates in other service projects involving the elderly, children and animals.
