A fund has been set up to help the Powell-Place family after Jerry Place and his son Steven Powell were shot and killed Wednesday night at their Eldred Township home.

Jeffrey A. Place, 54, and his stepson, Steven W. Powell, 30, were shot and killed Wednesday evening by neighbor, Garry Sherwood Flyte, in their home.

Flyte, who called police to say he shot three people, is in Monroe County Jail.

He works his hardest to provide support and love for his family and his friends - in the 10+ years that he has been involved with the Jesse James Fit family he has changed the lives of everyone he has met. Now it is our turn to take care of Trey and his family. All proceeds will go directly to the family.”So far the fund has raised $13,652.Trey posted on his Facebook page, “My brother Steven is a true hero! After being shot he ran to get my mom out of the house and kept her there until it was safe. The murder said he looked for my mom to kill her but couldn't find her. The shotgun shot to the abdomen should have stopped my brother in his tracks but like a true hero he stayed on his feet and saved our moms life. Without him there would be three members of my family gone. I love you little bro and thank you for being a real hero and saving our moms life!!”

His brother, Jerry Place, posted, “Jeff and Cam. I am sure they are at a lake right now missing us as much as we miss them.

R.I.P. You two.”Wendy Place, wife of Jeffrey and mother to Steven, reached out to people on the fund page this morning. She said, "I just want to thank everyone who has helped us I wish each an everyone of you would of had a chance to meet these two great guys everyone they met turned into their friend they had such big hearts and would do anything of anyone they are now my angels and I will be strong for them and make them proud and take care of hid sweet granddaughter that they loved so much and Steve always called her our little princess and I will show her all the pictures because right now she is to young to understand only 14 months old and comes to the house and say Pop Pop and looks for him. How do you tell her that he is with her always it just breaks my heart but I will not let them down RIP my sweet guys you were always my angels and will truly be miss but will always be in my heart and I just want to thank everyone and God bless all of you."The funeral for the two victims is scheduled for Monday at Gower Funeral Home, Route 209 in Gilbert.
