William Sterling., the son of William and Darlene Sterling of Jim Thorpe, was honored for earning his Eagle Scout badge, the highest rank in Scouting.

The occasion was recognized with an Eagle Scout Court of Honor which was held at the Bear Creek Lake Club House in Bear Creek Lake development.He has been involved in scouting from Tiger scout through Eagle scout under Senior Scoutmaster John Herbert and Troop 441.The rank of Eagle Scout is reached by only two out of every 100 boys in Scouting and at least one of them will tell you that he values his Eagle Scout badge above his college degree.They must complete an Eagle Scout Service Project which requires a minimum of 100 man hours and include planning, fund raising, obtaining the material, and organizing and supervising others.William's Eagle Scout Service Project was the restoration of the Kemmerer Memorial Park Trail in Jim Thorpe.The project included totally rebuilding the trail, constructing a wall made out of rock found on the property, uprooting and cutting trees, repairing the fence, laying down mulch, planting flowers, and setting up two park benches.Guest speakers for the event, State Representative Doyle Hefflry and Jim Thorpe Mayor Michael Sofranko, complemented the new Eagle Scout for the outstanding work that he had done.At the conclusion of the moving program, Eagle Scout William, fellow Scouts and Scout leaders, family and friends all joined together for a luncheon and friendly get-togethers.
