Director refuses to step down following underage drinking party at his home

A Northwestern Lehigh School director has refused to give up his post nearly a month after an underage drinking party was raided at his home.

Despite requests on Wednesday from several residents and fellow board members to resign, Director Leroy Sorensen maintained his seat on the school board.Calls for Sorensen's resignation reportedly stem from an underage drinking party at his home earlier this month.State police showed up at Sorensen's Weisenberg Township home Feb. 3 at 12:10 a.m. in response to a complaint.Sorensen was out of town. His wife, Louise, was at home at the time, but the couple maintains she was not aware there was drinking going on at the time.State police cited six juveniles and six adults who were under the legal drinking age of 21. The Sorensens have not been charged.Efforts to reach Superintendent Mary Anne Wright or Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Holman in time for today's publication were unsuccessful.
