Palmerton Food Pantry

The Palmerton Food Pantry will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 19, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Fireline Road, Palmerton. For information, call (610)-826-4335.

Park concerts

At 7 p.m., Sunday, July 21, the Palmerton Band will present a concert in the Palmerton Borough Park Bandstand. The following week, July 28, Crazy Heart will perform. In case of rain, concerts will be held in the Borough Hall, 443 Delaware Ave. Bring your own lawn chair and enjoy the music.

Community meal

A free community meal will be held from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, July 25, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 365 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton. All are invited for a meal and fellowship.

Palmerton Library

The "A Book That Shaped Me" Summer Writing Contest is part of summer reading programs at participating libraries. Prizes will be awarded, and top winners will be invited to present their essays during the Library of Congress National Book Festival, Sept. 21-22 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

Students entering fifth and sixth grades in the fall of 2013 are eligible. Essays should be one page in length, and must be submitted with an entry form in person at the Palmerton Area Library. The deadline for entries is Monday, Aug. 12.
