Students have the opportunity to Shop with a Cop at Kmart

Matt Enstrom, a detective with the Lehigh Township police department, said, "We got a good response from the community. Businesses donated." The Shop with a Cop project is in its first year and Dave Coppola, Kmart manager, said he expects to see it grow in future years.

Among the organizations and businesses contributing are the Lehigh Township Police Association, Lehigh Township Lions, Blue Mountain Drive-In Restaurant, Susquehanna Bank, First Niagara Bank, Lehigh Valley Spinal Care, Michael Meyers, Friendly Food Market and three anonymous donors who each gave $100. Meyers urged the police to begin the program this year instead of next, as had been under consideration.Sports and dogs were subjects of conversation as the boys, Alex Jon Plummer.Jr, Driftin Morti and Matt Mason, waited for breakfast at the Blue Mountain Drive-In. They each chose hot chocolate with breakfast and two asked for extra whipped cream.Since it was getting late the grandly decorated Christmas cupcakes were boxed with each boy getting four to take home to share. They had a list of relatives to buy for, but were also permitted to choose gifts for themselves.Gift wrapping, "our way of supporting them," was the last stop. "It is a very nice gesture to help the kids," said Coppola.

Alex Jon Plummer.Jr bought a bat and ball for himself. He said he had a glove at home. Chief Scott Fogel helped him with his gift list.
