Members of the Tamaqua Volunteers Community Initiative group and Tamaqua Crime Watch have joined together in investigative pursuit of the person or persons who littered furniture, construction supplies and drug paraphernalia in the woods just off the Schuylkill Valley Heritage Trail along SR209 in both Walker and Schuylkill townships, just outside Tamaqua.

Tamaqua Volunteers members pointed out that the area was kept clean for all terrain vehicle (ATV) riders, walkers and other passers-by to safely enter the woods southwest of Tamaqua.The littered debris consists of furniture, large and small carpets, mattresses, pet fence, fast food containers, red deck steps, plastic bottles, wood scraps, pieces of drywall and other construction materials.Volunteers are asking anyone with information to call police since families often walk the trail.Tamaqua Crime Watch volunteers stressed, "You can see multiple needles among the pile of litter. This trash, which consisted of a couch, open carpet and mattress, seems to have attracted drug users."Even though crime watch volunteers have stepped up their surveillance of the area, they still ask people to keep an eye out and call police right away.
