Washington Township supervisors adopted an ordinance during last Tuesday's meeting to assess fees for checks with insufficient funds.

A civil suit will be filed if payment is not made within 10 days.It was found some appointments were not made during reorganization and were included with the Feb. 7 meeting.George Kern was reappointed as emergency management coordinator and Chris Noll was named inspector of dry wells. Pete Papay was reappointed to the planning commission.The appointment of Preston Williams to the zoning hearing board was a mistake since his term is not up. The appointment was rescinded and Howard Todd, whose term is up, was reappointed.Bill Rettew owns land next to the township property. A motion was made to enter into an agreement of sale to buy the 14.6 acres for $3,600.Charlie Schmoyer asked if Friedens Fire Company could erect signs on Route 873 pointing to the fire company so people realize the possibility of fire trucks entering the highway. Two signs were approved, one facing north and one south.Fire Chief Joel Merkel said companies did not want to clear the pond along Route 873 where the company has a dry hydrant. The work would be difficult during winter. He said it is still something that has to be done and will present the required three bids for the work by spring.He asked about new members of the company needing screening for hepatitis C. The company that provides the workmen's compensation insurance wants to know if there are carriers among the firemen."And what about us regular people?" he asked.Merkel also asked if the township would provide hepatitis shots. He has been told that it is insane to go out without protection.Supervisor Josh Friebolin promised to research the shots.Since the parking lots at Citizens and Star Hose fire companies are on the seal coating list, Merkel asked why Friedens was not.Roads designated for seal coating include Cemetery Road, Hickory Road, Spring Valley Street, Tower Road, Eagle Road, Middle Avenue, Spring Lane, Valley Road, Church Road, Lovers Lane, Cutoff Lane, East Avenue, Garage Avenue and the Citizens and Star Hose fire company parking lots.In other business:• Junk yard applications were approved for Jack Follweiler, Alfred Hanna, Craig Yeanish, Kathy Jones and Clay Sauerwine.• Unpaid per capita taxes will be turned over to Berkheimer Associates for collection.• The animal control contract with the Sanctuary at Haafsville was signed with it not to exceed $500. Last year 95 percent of the animals were returned to their owners and there were four people who did not want the animals.• The Eagles Nest Association requested its budgeted donation of $600. Financial reports for 2011 were received.• Dale Dech wanted his letter of credit reduced. Engineer Roy Stewart will inspect the improvements and a reduction will depend on those improvements being completed correctly.• When resident Ed Ziegler asked who should be called for animal control, he was told the sanctuary number is 484-788-8062.
