A multi-million dollar solar park in Nesquehoning is one step closer to becoming a reality.

During the Carbon County Planning Commission meeting earlier this week, the board voted to approve the revised preliminary/final plan for Green Energy Capital Partners' solar park project.Ivan O. Meixell Jr., county planner, overviewed the updates of the project.He said the park was scaled back to a 133.9-acre solar park and will be constructed in phases.Meixell added that the reason for the plan coming before the commission again was because of the revisions.Following his comments, Meixell recommended that the commission give plan approval for the project.The solar park has been in the works for nearly three years but delays have continually pushed back the start date of the project. No new expected start date was available as of press time.Michael Tomarelli of Green Energy Capital Partners of Conshohocken, said that the company was not able to comment on the project at this time.Initially, the plans called for two phases. Phase I would have been the installation of 56,000 solar panels, standing four-feet high.Phase II, which was approved by the Nesquehoning Zoning Hearing Board in March 2010, called for an additional 50,000 panels on land adjacent to the first phase of the project.But no word on if the number of solar panels to be installed has increased or decreased was available.Signs regarding trespassing on the future site of the solar park have been posted along Industrial Road in Nesquehoning and equipment to clear the area had been moved in, in recent weeks.
