Judy F. Moon, Carbon County Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans' Court, has released a statistical report for activity in that office in 2011. It is as follows:

Acting as an agent for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, for the collection of Inheritance Taxes, the register received 489 payments totalling $4,250,783.08. The county's commission on this amount was $38,998.74, which was transferred to the Carbon County General Fund. Other fees collected last year, including state taxes,

J.C.P. fees and Automation charges, amounted to $87,757.89.Moon reported $8,624 was also disbursed to the State Tax Office for Judicial Computer Fees; $7,708.10 was collected and remitted to the state as State Tax and Trust Fund income; and $8,715.50 was turned over to the county in data processing charges. Interest earned on holdings amounted to $20.41, while $3,945 in Automation Fees was also collected by the register's staff.During 2011, there were 409 estates opened in the office for the probation of wills and administration. Other activity included the processing of numerous Orphans' Court petitions; 393 requests of estate searches, genealogy research and family heritage information, including 87 by mail, 114 by telephone, 37 via e-mail and 98 other requests for various types of information. The office personnel assisted 57 genealogist who visited the office last year.In other activities, the register's office completed scanning of all estates and incapacitation for the current year. Additional marriage license information was also indexed into the computer system, completing records back to and including 1960.The office distributed $18,800 in marriage license fees; issued 376 marriage licenses; handled three guardianship of minors cases, seven miscellaneous orders and petitions, 11 petitions for adoption, four voluntary termination proceedings; two involuntary termination proceedings; and six incapacitation.There were 32 accounts filed for court adjudication, 93 family settlements and informal accounts, 52 first and final accounts, 514 receipt and releases, 280 certificates of marriage and certifications of applications; and 31 applications/referrals for birth and/or death records.The register also disposed of 369 estates, 10 adoptions, nine involuntary terminations, three involuntary terminations, four incapacitation, nine miscellaneous cases and 369 marriage licenses, which included current marriages and others dating back to 1960.
