Mahoning to purchase new police car

Mahoning Township supervisors unanimously ratified their bid to purchase a 2011 Crown Victoria police car from Milham Ford at their recent meeting at a cost of $33,379 over the term of a four year lease which is to be paid over four equal payments.

"The vehicle itself costs $24,776 from Milham Ford and we are getting it outfitted at Kovatch's at a cost of $8,603," said Township Chairman John Wieczorek. "The equipment portion for the bill will be paid over two years."Supervisors spent the better part of the year exploring their options from the various bids presented to them before settling on the 2011 Crown Vic which is no longer being produced. Other newer models were a Dodge Interceptor, Dodge Charger and a Chevy Caprice but upon reviewing the various vehicles supervisors opted to purchase the Crown Victoria. Some reasons cited were the lack of space inside the other cards and unfavorable reviews. In other police news, supervisors unanimously accepted the resignation of recently hired part-time officer Peter Swann. In a separate personnel matter, supervisors also unanimously accepted with regrets the resignation of road crew member Brian Reeser.
