New hi-tech traffic lights in Tamaqua

Engineers and electricians with Bruce & Merrilees Electric Company, New Castle, are in the process of replacing all traffic lights and cross walk signals at seven major intersections in Tamaqua.

All the new state-of-the-art traffic signals will be electronically tied together to better deal with traffic congestion on both SR209 and SR309.In addition to better traffic signal management, the intersections have new loop systems below the road to detect vehicles. All the new traffic lights are also equipped with preemption controls which allow for faster response of emergency and police vehicles.Work on the lights is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving.
