Defendants face mixed bag of charges in district court

Defendants appeared in the court of District Judge Stephen Bayer this past week in a variety of cases ranging from alcohol and drugs to fights and child endangerment.

Kevin Michael Sanders Jr., 31, of 108 W. Broad St., Tamaqua, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of simple assault and endangering the welfare of children. The charges were filed by Tamaqua Cpl. Henry Woods following an April 5 incident.Sanders was released after posting 10 percent of the imposed $10,000 bail.Ruben Ortiz, 31, of 630 Center Ave., Reading, waived charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, receiving stolen property and retail theft. The charges stem from an April 25 incident and were filed by Rush Township Patrolman Adam Sinton. Charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver were withdrawn.Ortiz posted 10 percent of the required $50,000 bail and was released.Jason A. Hurley, 27, of 147 Fourth St., Coaldale, waived a hearing on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, which stem from a June 16 incident. The charges were filed by Coaldale Patrolman Jeremy Talanca.Hurley was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.Jason M. Hahn, 20, of 401 Hazle St., Tamaqua, was bound over for court trial on drug related charges filed by Tamaqua Police Sgt. Richard Weaver. The charges include possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and stem from an April 2 incident.Hahn was released on $25,000 unsecured bail.Michele Romig, 37, of 101 E. High St., Coaldale, waived a hearing on charges stemming from an April 5 incident. Coaldale Patrolman Talanca charged Romig with driving under the influence of alcoholRomig was released on her own recognizance.James Neff, 28, of 162 E. Phillips St., Coaldale, will face court trial after being bound over for court on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia. Patrolman Talanca filed the charges following a June 12 incident in Coaldale.Deborah Lee Bitsko, 45, of 310 Arlington St., Tamaqua, waived charges of operating a vehicle without the required ignition interlock and failure to heed duties at a stop sign. The charges were filed Rush Township Patrolman Adam Sinton following a May 29 incident.Dustin R. Hill, 22, of 1034 Hunter St., Tamaqua, waived his right to a hearing on charges filed by Kline Township Patrolman Joseph Aponick. The charges stem from a June 14 incident and include driving under the influence of alcohol and careless driving.Hill was released on his own recognizance.Lisa Jean Green, 50, of 640 E. Ridge St., Lansford, also waived a hearing on DUI related charges. Green was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, resisting arrest and driving the wrong way following a May 28 incident. The charges were filed by Tamaqua Patrolman Matt Bynon.Green was released on her own recognizance.Elisah Ann Wonsock, 27, of 416 Center Ave., Jim Thorpe, waived a hearing on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without the required rear lights. The charges were filed by Coaldale Patrolman Talanca following a June 11 incident.Wonsock was released on her own recognizance.Frank Angelo Ciekalsky, 32, of 229 W. Blaine St., McAdoo, waived a hearing on charges related to a June 5 incident in McAdoo. The charges include simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct and were filed by McAdoo Patrolman Robert Minnich.Ciekalsky was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.Lewis William Frye Jr., 42, of 95 W. Miner St., Coaldale, waived a hearing on simple assault and harassment, filed by Coaldale Patrolman Todd Weiss. The charges stem from a June 20 incident.Frye was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
