Schuylkill crashes

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on two crashes investigated by troopers on Schuylkill County roadways this week.

A two vehicle crash occurred about 6:09 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, along SR901 (Gordon Nagle Trail) in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Robert W. Weidler Jr., 41, of Robesonia, Berks County, was driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata eastbound when a 16-year-old male from Pottsville stopped his 1996 Pontiac Grand Am abruptly on the wet roadway. Weidler was unable to stop and his Sonata struck the Grand Am in the rear with the front.No one was injured, troopers said. Weidler was cited for driving too fast for conditions.Troopers probed a one vehicle crash about 12:10 a.m. Friday, June,10, along SR25 in Hegins Township in which the driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI).Troopers said Justin Washick, 24, of Valley View, was driving a 2002 Saturn SL2 westbound when, for unknown reasons, he traveled off the road and onto the berm. The car traveled 18 feet in the grass area before colliding with a mailbox at 412 W. Main St. After impact the car continued on the berm another 45 feet before impacting with a grass mound with the undercarriage of the vehicle.The car continued another 50 feet before impacting with a utility pole. After impact with the pole the car spun 45-degrees clockwise and caem to rest across the westbound lane.Washick was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for treatment of a minor injury. Troopers said a blood test was administered at the hospital. The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers added.
