Schuylkill Township employees will have something to look forward to in their next paychecks. Supervisors voted to approve raises for all of the township employees, including the road crew, secretary, police chief, and code enforcement officer.

"We have to thank all the employees," said chairman Linda DeCindio. "They were due for these raises in January, but they agreed to a freeze until we could wait and see what we had come in taxes."The police chief and road foreman will see raises from $14 per hour to $15 per hour. The code enforcement officer's salary will go from $150 a month to $175 a month. The secretary/treasurer will now receive 2 percent of the garbage fees collected, an increase of 1 percent."Mary (Bubel) does an excellent job with the garbage fees," said DeCindio. " She has her ways. If we had someone else do it, it would cost us at least 5 percent. She did it for years for nothing. Two years ago, we gave her 1 percent. The municipality collects 99 percent of the garbage fees."In other business, the supervisors heard from several residents who requested that more stop signs be placed throughout the township, specifically in the area of Emerich Street.Additionally, residents requested that a curfew be enacted in the township. One resident said that she frequently sees younger children out at midnight or one o'clock in the morning. "They're out walking dogs, in the yard late," she said.Police Chief Jesse Zimmerman said that the township does have a curfew, however, it is difficult to enforce because the township does not have a juvenile holding facility.There may be other issues with enforcing it as well.Supervisor Christine Verdier said that the township will look into what is necessary to place more stop signs.The township received $974.43 from the state police as a result of fines that were collected in the township. The money will be deposited in the general fund.The township approved the annual donation of $1,500 to each of the three fire companies.Garbage bills have been sent out and are due by June 30.The township will advertise the 1977 Case 580C loader for sale, as is.
